Bye Bye Dr. Trevino

doc·trine ( P ) (dktrn)n.
A principle or body of principles presented for acceptance or belief, as by a religious, political, scientific, or philosophic group; dogma.

I'm in the middle of attending the "11th annual Hispanic Women's Conference" founded by Dr. Margarita Trevino. This will be my last year. See what I didn't know was that Dr. Trevino had left her church "First Baptist in Keller" and started attending a new church called "The Wisdom Center"

Reasons for not returning:
# The conference was a general assembly instead of the usual mini conferences.
# The conference for the most part was in English with translation to Spanish, instead of all Spanish.
# There were a bunch of new speakers instead the the ones of days of old.
# They had an Anglo woman doing most of the leading of worship, trying to sing in spanish but butchering it. Although they had on the program a woman how does praise and worship in both languages. (She only sang a few songs)
# No gifts bags, but a free book from the Pastor
# The whole conference basically talked about whatever the Pastor wrote in his book. When they said turn to Chapter 24, I grabbed my bible, but realized they were talking about his book.
# The doctrine of planting a seed and reaping a harvest. Specifically $35 for a dvd, $20 for an author to sign a book, and $15,000 to help pay for next years conference.

Dr. Trevino used to be a great woman of the faith. (seems like she was just playing the part)
Now she's found the Holy Spirit, planted a $1000 seed that turned into $58000, and now all is well in her world.

Questions and Comments:
1. She had the Holy Spirit, it's not His fault she wasn't joyful, and that she had Him on a shelf.
2. The love of money is the root of all evil.
3. Jesus was not rich, and those God fearing people in the bible who were used there wealth for the Lord and realized it was all his anyway (King David)
4. The amount of money you give does not show how much you love God. Obidience to His Word does.
5. I'm going to start my own conference next year.

Testimony to a God of Miracles

I'm testifing on behalf of the miracle that the Lord gave me. I had my surgery, on wed.20, 2005 where they removed 75lbs of skin and fat. I'm on the road to recovery, and I'm doing well. This is how it came to be, I've been looking for help, and couldnt find anyone to help me. Met a nurse named Linda at a bariactric center, who gave me the number to Dr. Naaman in Houston. He is a high risk case doctor and that was exactly who I needed to take care of me. He agreed to take my case but since I just had my stroke and was still dependant on my wheel chair, he had me come back a month later. I did go back where he sugested that I should have all that excess skin removed as well as the gastric bypass, so he refered me to Dr. Philip Freeman a plastic surgeon. When to see him he said he would do the surgery but I would have to find the finances to pay him cause medicare and medicaid would not pay anything for his services. I applied to Texas Rehab Comission to see if they would help pay since it was medically necessary for me to have the skin removed. During the month of waiting for a response from rehab, I prayed to the Lord "Its in your hands Lords what comes to be will be for me " ....On the monday a week before I had surgery, I recieved the phone call that told me that I had been denied finances by rehab... I called Dr. Naaman's office right after to ask him to just do the bypass since I wasn't gonna get money to cover Dr. Freemans part. I didnt get a answer because Dr. Naaman was in surgery, and that they would have him call me back. Two days later on Wed. I got the phone to call Dr. Naamans again when the phone rang in my hand , I answered and it was Dr. Naamans calling to ask me if I could be in Houston by the 20 for my surgery and that I would be having both procedures done. I had to ask them to repeat what they just said about both procedures being done. The nurse told me that Dr. Naaman spoke to Dr. Freeman and Dr. Freeman said he would donate his services for me...Still in shock , I decided to call Dr. Freemans office to confirm that he was gonna do that for me...and his secretary got him on the other line and he confirmed that he will donate his services. I knew that the Lord was behind all the good things happening to me.
Now here I sit knowing God answers prayers, I'm 75lbs lighter , nothing obstructing my legs to walk anymore except I'm still really sore but I know that God will continue helping me during my recovery and my journey of experiencing life again.

Thank you all for your prayers. I will keep you up dated on my recovery.
Love

The Kiss

The Kiss ... He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire. She is pregnant. The firefighter was afraid of her at first, because he had never been around a Doberman before. When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest. A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer," noticed this red Doberman in the distance looking at the fireman. He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do. As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies, and kissed him, just as the photographer snapped this photograph.

What are you doing? This is my bed

"What are you doing? This is my bed". she says.

Isabel has taken over Eddie's side of the bed. Eddie had to take her into her room, give her a million stickers that kept falling off of her hands, and then switched to big stickers. Then had to give her a massage so she could fall asleep.

That's my girl. Don't settle for less.

Unfortunatly, I'll have to do the same on the nights that Eddie works. I'll just have to start at 8:00, so that I can be in bed by 10:00... Tonight is the first night.

Are you sleeping, brother John?

Last night I had Isabel in bed with me in hopes that she would take her cue from me and go straight to sleep.
Isabel: "You sleeping?"
Me: "Yes, I'm sleeping, Mommy's tired".
In the loudest voice ever...
Isabel: "WAKE UP.... WAKE UP MOMMY!"
Me: "Isabel, don't be mean to mommy, I'm tired.. give me a massage on my back."

So she proceeds to give me a massage, finishes turnes over and says.
"Ok, go to sleep mommy"

Potting Training

This past Saturday, I decided I was going to potty train Isabel. We went to buy Dora underwear, and began the process. One by one she would say "potty, oh man" as she would wet herself. And at one point pooped on herself. I would put her on the potty after each incident. After the 5 time, she refused to sit on the potty. So I gave up. I put on the pull ups and she would tell me after she went each time. Last night we were in bed and she says "potty, mama mama pottyyyy"... I waited a while and she said it again. So I said "you need to go to the potty?" "Yes", she replies so off we go. I pull off her diaper, feel it, and it's dry. I sit her on the seat and to my amazment she goes. I was shocked. I cheered and clapped. Then she asks"more?" Yes more more, so she continues to go. "More?" Yes more. "I can't" So I walk out of the room to get a pull up and she yells "I'm done!"
I knew she could do it, it was just a matter of her deciding when. I will keep you posted on her progress.

Got it over with

I called the lady from church yesterday to tell her about her photo. I figured I'd give her 3 days to cool off, didn't want to necessarily ruin her Sunday.
I apologized over and over again, basically told her that I was irresposible and the felt like the scum of the earth.
All she could say was "Oh"
Well I take an "Oh" over "You're right" anyday.
Next step facing her on Sunday. I'm glad we're going to be a church, so she won't punch me. :)

2 going on 12

Yesterday, I picked up the girls from the sitter's house. Isabel had her nails painted, and chewing gum. Then she comes over to me and whispers something in my ear.

Whoa...... When did you start painting your nails, chewing gum and telling secrets.. You're not a teenager yet. I don't think so.

This is all the influence of my babysitter's 12 year old daughter. Go figure.

Isabel, you are only 2... don't grow up too fast.

The Reality of Stephanie Plum

Well, any of you who have read the Stephanie Plum novels, know that she is a bounty hunter, who has driven numerous kinds of cars. I'm only on book 2, and it's hilarious. I just finished reading a chapter where she goes into a bad part of town, goes into a building for less than 10 minutes, and she she comes out, her car has been stolen.

Well last night at 9:00, we were heading home and my cousin who's 20 years old calls me and says, "I need your help."
"What happened" I reply
"I came to drop off my aunt at a friends, house. When we were unloading her stuff, some crackhead lady jumped in my car and took off"
"That sucks" I say, trying to hold back my laughter. "So what do you want me to do?"

Well to make a long story short, Eddie had to go pick him up in Mesquite and bring him back to Arlington.
Lesson of the day: 1) Don't leave your car running, even if you are just standing "right there". Crackheads are everywhere.

If my head wasn't screwed on, I'd loose it.

dread ( P ) Pronunciation Key (drd)v. dread·ed, dread·ing, dreads v. tr.
To be in terror of.
To anticipate with alarm, distaste, or reluctance: dreaded the long drive home

A characteristic of Adult ADHD is loosing /misplacing things all the time. I do this quite often, if not everyday. A couple of weeks ago a lady from church gave me a really small picture to scan and enlarge. She asked about it yesterday, and I had completely forgot what she was talking about, it had been so long. Needless to say, I can't find that picture anywhere. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack. I dread telling her on Sunday that I lost it. It looked old. I hope that wasn't her only copy.
I really need to get some help with this. I hate loosing things, espeically important things.
Like jewerly, keys, checks, money, clothes, shoes, bills, etc... you name it I've lost it.
Lord, I pray that she will be understanding and not get too mad.

Night # 7

Well last night it took Isabel 1 hour to fall asleep, she kept crying for her "bo-bo". I had to keep reminding her that Loba the dog had eaten it, and that I was sorry I couldn't find her another one. Finally at 10:00 she put her head on my legs and I played with her hair and massaged her scalp. She was out. She did not take a nap all day and she was in a bad mood. You would think that after a week she'd forget about it, but I guess not. It looks to me like she's in mourning over her pacifier. I don't want her to be agitated everyday and night, but I don't want to give the pacifer back to her either. I don't know if all this fuss is worth it.

Baby Proofing 101

Didn't really feel the need to baby proof the house, Isabel has never really gotten into anything, but after hearing recent stories from Eddie about a 2 year drinking some liquid that was under the sink, and about a little boy who almost strangled himself with the cord from the blinds, I'm moving into action.
I've already made the call to Eddie about the blinds. He said he had already cut the cords. So now, I'm just going to go out and buy some more outlet covers, because the other day I caught Isabel trying to stick a fork in one of the outlets. Also I'm putting all of our cleaning supplies up above the washer. Also I'm getting rid of the changing table, seeing that Emma can now roll over and wants to always roll off.
Well at least I have gates at the top and bottom of the stairs.
All you parents out there who kids have accidentally harmed themselves, "You're not a horrible parent", things happen. Just wish we were like spiders with 8 eyes so that we could see everything.

Out of the mouths of babes

Everytime we ask Isabel to do something, we have taught her to reply "Si, Mama or Si Papa", instead of saying "ok".
Well the other day in the car, she was telling me something and she said "Ok, mama?", I replied "ok"... She came back with, "No, ok, say 'Si Belle'"

Making Children Mind Without Loosing Yours

I've started to read a new book by Dr. Kevin Leman, "Making Children Mind Without Loosing Yours". I can't wait until I finish it. The first line in the book reads, "Raising a child these days can be very scary." No joke, tell me about it. Chapter 4 reads, "Why Rewards and Punishment don't work"... Don't know about this one, I'll let you know when I get to it. Because right now, I can threaten Isabel with a spanking, and can bribe her with candy. Works for me. We'll see, hopefully I can learn some new techniques.

Wet n' Wild Forever

Well I took the girls to Wet n' Wild (Hurricane Harbor) this weekend. For those of you who grew up here in Arlington, it will always be called Wet n' Wild. Isabel didn't like it too much, but that could be because she was a little tired. Emma on the other hand loved it. She would splash and splash, and try to stick her face in the water. We went to Hook's Lagoon, and stayed in the kiddie pool. We also went into the Lazy River, my favorite. I think I'll get a season pass next summer, Emma will be walking by then and Isabel will be a little older, hopefully she'll enjoy it more.

Ok... We're on day 8 without a pacifer, and Isabel still asks for it. Will it ever stop? I wanted to start potting training the past weekend, but decided against it, because I didn't want to over traumatize the poor girl. I give it another 2 weeks, and then it's no more diapers. Truthfully I think I'll be the one traumatized. It's going to be hard.

Stephanie Plum and Friends

I've jumped on the Stephanie Plum bandwagon. I've just finished the first book in the series "One for the Money". I've got 10 to go. The first one was hilarious at times, making me laugh out loud. I hear they only get funnier. I'll keep you posted.

Another Night Behind Us....

At 9:00 I put Isabel into bed, with stickers on her hands and Elmo on the TV and no pacifier in site (Loba ate it). I sneak to my room climb into bed, attempt to watch some TV, but fall right to sleep. Fast foward to 40 minutes later... Isabel is at her bedroom door attempting to open it, yelling Mommy... Mommy... I let this go on for almost 5 minutes, before I cave in and open the door. I put her back into bed and try again, only this time she starts to cry. I let this go on for 10 minutes. Seeing that I'm not going to get any sleep and fearing that she'll wake Emma (although Emma sleeps through anything and has been asleep since 8:30) I climb out of bed, open her bedroom door and say "Do you want to sleep with Mama?" She nods her little head. So off we go... she climbs into bed, we cuddle a little and she falls right to sleep.

You may be thinking that this was an unsuccessful night. But I correct you, this was very sucessful, because my goal was that she fall asleep without her pacifer, and that's exactly what happened.

Since Eddie will be home tonight, we will see how it goes. He usually gets her to go to sleep by giving her a massage on her hands, legs and most of all feet. Like mother like daughter.

Making a connection

I just finished reading an article in Family Life Today title The Irresistable Man. Basically it talked about how a woman defines romance. In the latter part of the article it gives 10 questions that you can ask your wife to make an emotional connection with her. I'll answer the first one here.

What is one of your earliest childhood memories?

All my memories run together, but here is one. I was in pre-school, so probably 3 or 4. I remember my friend Diana teaching me how to swing. You kick your legs out to go up and the bend them to go back. I learned how to swing in a day. From then on you couldn't stop me. Later on as I grew up, I remeber getting on a swing side by side with a friend and we'd pretend to go on trips and pretend that the swing was our airplane.
"Let's go to New York".... "Look there's the Statue of Liberty".

One of these days that dream will come true.

My Baby Einstein

Since Eddie has been staying home with the girls on his off days, they have been watching Sesame Street 123. I remember as a kid watching and loving this show. I remember haveing a letter of the day and the number of the day. What I don't remember is the number of the day ever going over the number 10. The other day I was watching sesame street and the number of the day was 18... 18 what kid learns the number 18 at the age of 2? Well Saturday, Eddie said watch this. Isabel was at the top of the stairs with me and Eddie started walking down the stairs he told her "cuenta (count)" She said 1, 2, 3, and so on........10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. She counted all the way to 15. I was amazed. Now we've just got to teach her how to count in Spanish and she'll be set.

Dream a Little Dream

My dreams to fulfill before I die. They are listed in no order of importance except for number 1.

1. Watch my two girls accept Christ into their life and become women of God
2. Memorize 100 verses
3. Be really fluent in Spanish.
4. See my husband finish all the cabinet work for our house
5. Set up the best scrapbooking room ever.
6. Take a Disney cruise with my family
7. Take my mom on a cruise.
8. Have a little boy
9. Go on a mission trip to a foreign country
10. Visit Eddie's family in Mexico
11. Be completely debt free (house and all)

What are your top 5 dreams?

Happy Anniversary

This sunday marked our 6th Anniversary. Eddie helped me fix up my scrapbooking room to a functional level and then watched the girls while I spent 4 hours scrapbooking with my friend Chachi. Thanks Eddie you're the best.

The Day After Tomorrow

Just read Tracy Barnes blog on the "War of the Worlds"... It reminds me about the movie "A day after tomorrow"
Recap: The characters are sitting in the library getting books to burn. They come across the Bible. The athiests say something to the effect of "We can't burn the Bible part of history, it's the oldest book in the world."

Got me to thinking... God's Word can never be destroyed. It has and will continue to stand the test of time.

Ouch that hurt - UPDATED

Ok I got my first check after switching from Bi-Monthly to Bi-Weekly. The check is almost 1/2 short. I must have calculated wrong when I was trying to figure out what it would be. Guess it's beans and rice for the next month... Just kidding.

P.S. The reason it's 1/2 short is because I got paid for only 6 days...
I will get and extra full paycheck in September.

Closer to God #2

"Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!" Romans 11:33

Wouldn't it be great to tap into God's wisdom to help you live your life today? You can. Just ask him for it. (James 1:5)

Lessons from Dora

Parents whose kids watch Dora the Explorer will appreciate this.

The other day, Isabel was helping take clothes from our bedroom to the laundry room.
I hear my husband say along the way
"Dinning Room, Kitchen, Lauuuundry Room"
over and over again as she went back and forth.
Then on the last trip. I hear
"We did it, we did it. You took the clothes to the laudry room. Yeah we did it" While doing the Dora dance.

Whatever works for you babe, I'm for it.

Orange you gonna eat that?

Yesterday my mission friends began studing a new set of missionairies in Florida. So our study yesterday focused on fruits. We had plastic fruits, and fruit puzzle and real fruits to touch and feel. They got to taste an apple, watermelon, and orange.
Did you know that you can use multiple ses when eating an orange. If you have toddlers you should try this.

Sight: Let them look at the orange and repeat the name and color
Touch: Let them touch the outside of the orange
Smell: Let them smell the outside of the orange.
Then start peeling the orange. Hand them a orange rind and let them smell it.
After its completely peeled let them do all 3 things again.
Then open the orange Hear your child say Ohhhhhhhhhh.
Then give them a slice and let her taste it.

Yum yum yum yum.... delicioso

Closer to God #1

I am currently reading "Time to Get Serious: Daily Devotions to keep you close to God" by Dr. Tony Evans. At the end of each devotions he poses a "Think About it Question" From time to time, I will post those thought provoking questions that bring us closer to God.

Today's Question:
We have the priviledge of bringing glory to the most glorious Being in the unvierse!
What are you going to do today that will glorify God?

How did you do it?

Isabel is 2 yrs 2 months and still has a pacifier. I need suggestions on how to get rid of it. The other night she went to sleep without it. I thought cool, it's a start. But the next night she cried and cried until I gave it to her. Now it seems she wants it all the time, not just a night anymore.
Truth be told, I don't want to take it away, because it's easier for me if she keeps it, but I know that it has to be taken away. If anyone has any suggestions I open to trying anything.

Kenny Rogers - LOSER

Dale Hansen said it perfectly on Friday night. I've lost all respect for Kenny Rogers, not that I had any to begin with. I barely even knew the guy. All I knew about him is that he is the pitcher for the Rangers. Dale did bring to light some personailty traits that plaque some of our star athletes. For instance. Kenny Rogers complains that he can't play because of a hurt finger. He mentioned 2 other baseball players that no matter what came through for their team. Some guy whose ankle was messed up and bleeding, but he pitched anyway. And another guy who didn't any have a right arm, but pitched anyway.
Also, Kenny Rogers complains about his salary, when he only throws a baseball 8 months out of the year, and complains that he goes days without seeing his kids. As Dale pointed out.
Our soldiers in Iraq go months, sometimes a year without seeing their kids.
Our police force run through alleys chasing bad guys on a smaller salary.
Our firefighters go through buring building saving people on a smaller salary.
Our teachers have the task of teaching tomorrows leaders, on a even smaller salary, and even have to buy classroom supplies using their own money.
So what does Kenny have to complain about.
I hope the law gives him the maximum penalty that there is for what he did, he deserves no less.

My rights as a mom

I wanted to be the one who got to paint Isabel's toes for the first time. Well when I picked her up from her sitter's house on Thursday, her fingers and toes were bright pink. I couldn't say anything, I don't want to be one of those overprotective, don't touch my child, parents. I just smiled and said "Isabel I love your nails, how pretty" But in the back of my mind, I was pouting. Oh well there are other things that'll just be between us. I can picture it now. Her first official manicure and pedicure, at a real salon. I can't wait. It'll be our thing to do. Well get up on a Saturday morning stop at McDonalds, go to the salon, and then afterwards have lunch at LaMadelline. I can't wait. Well yes I can I don't want her growing up too fast, she is just too much fun at this age. Love You Isabel.

Farewell Luther, we'll miss you

I remember like it was yesterday, "Here and Now" playing at our Jr High dance. I would tell my self "When I get married that's the song I want played at my wedding." Well I got married, and needless to say, I chose another song. "Give me forever, I do" by John Tesh and James Ingram. Sorry Luther. Anyways, I've always like that song, and I like his latest hit, "Dance with my father" I you haven't heard it I highly recommend it, it'll make you cry. Well Luther, your smooth voice, and classic songs will be missed. Farewell.

Farewell Sandra, you won't be missed.

Finally, someone has stepped down from the Supreme Court. Sandra Day O'Conner, first female justice, and achor of a shaky majority for abortion rights.
President Bush pledged to name a successor quickly as the costliest confirmation battle in history took shape. I sure hope he can get someone in soon. I'm glad she's gone. Some of her rulings go against everything I stand for, especially her stance on not banning partial birth abortion. Not to say that everything she did was wrong. Last week, in a dissent to a 5-4 ruling that let local governments take personal property to build malls and other businesses, she wrote that the majority had unwisely handed more power to the powerful. This we do agree on.
Nevertheless because of her opions concerning human I am glad she is retired. Sandra, have a nice life.

My Little Cookie Monster

Like mother, like daughter. When I was a little girl, I had a cassette tape that featured songs sung on Sesame Street. My favorite song was "C is for Cookie", performed by none other than Cookie Monster. Isabel watches 123 Sesame Street everyday, and one of the characters that she likes to imitate is Cookie Monster. The other day in the car she was eating some cookies. She would take these bite size cookies and jam them in her mouth saying "yum yum yum", while smearing her hand all over her mouth. Over and Over as she would eat the cookies she would say "I love cookies, I love cookies". Then when she finished she insisted on licking her fingers, instead of using a paper towel. In the back of my mind I think "Cookie Monster isn't teaching her very good manners" but then I throw that thought out and replace it with "Ahh, she's so cute, my little cookie monster"
