How did you do it?

Isabel is 2 yrs 2 months and still has a pacifier. I need suggestions on how to get rid of it. The other night she went to sleep without it. I thought cool, it's a start. But the next night she cried and cried until I gave it to her. Now it seems she wants it all the time, not just a night anymore.
Truth be told, I don't want to take it away, because it's easier for me if she keeps it, but I know that it has to be taken away. If anyone has any suggestions I open to trying anything.

It's tough. There are a variety of strategies out there and I'm not sure if any one of them is the best. We did it when Seth was 21 months old and we just went cold turkey. We had a rough two months but now that it is over I'm glad we are rid of it. You just have to "just do it" but explain to her what is happening. I think that is where we went wrong, we didn't respect him or his feelings.

Get her to throw it away herself tell her it's
dirty.yak! you might keep in the trash can in her room for a while
and when she wants it remind her she threw it
because it was dirty.
